Hanging out in the truck with Clayre while mommy hits the shops. We've been wearing her little butt out this weekend. Hopefully a good nap will put her in a good mood for this afternoon. We were planning on going to the botanic garden today, but we aren't prepared for 40 degree and windy weather.

"This deficiency in "self-monitoring skills," the researchers said, helps explain the tendency of the humor-impaired to persist in telling jokes that are not funny, of day traders to repeatedly jump into the market -- and repeatedly lose out -- and of the politically clueless to continue holding forth at dinner parties on the fine points of campaign strategy. This is a great read that explains why ignorance inhibits an individual's ability to determine the level of their performance as well as the ability to determine the competence of others. This causes them to over estimate their own abilities, and prevents them from recognizing when their performance is lacking.
I'd like to think that I do a good job of recognizing competence, but should probably take a more active stance. In my work I'm required to be able to make a very quick assessment to help determine the quality of data that I receive. This helps to determine the level of QA required before using the data.
I am going to keep telling jokes though!
